An antique reliquary, silver. Barcelona, Spain, circa 1500–1525.
A hexagonal reliquary, finished with Gothic tracery, standing on a hexagonal base and topped with a crucifix.
The base bears a Gothic inscription ‘S. LVCIA’, for Saint Lucia, who has been venerated in Barcelona since the 13th century.
The lid of the reliquary is removable and the bone relic can be taken out. The relic is mounted on both sides with silver, one of which was made to be mounted in the reliquary.
The reliquary is made of silver and marked BAR (A and R joined together) on the underside.
Mounted in a leather protective case, made of wood and finished with embossed leather.
