Flanders Auctions | Pol Desmet

1. Bid in-person

Participating in an auction in person is always a thrilling experience! To join the sale, register upon arrival at our auction house. Make sure to bring a valid photo ID and proof of address to receive your bidding paddle.

Keep in mind, the total cost includes your bid, a 25% buyer’s premium, and, if applicable, a resale right.

Location: Beernemsteenweg 99, 8750 Wildenburg, Belgium

2. Absentee bid

Placing an absentee bid is one of the easiest ways to participate in an auction. You can submit your bid via mail, WhatsApp, or directly through your Flanders Auctions account. When logged into your account on our website, enter the maximum amount you’re willing to bid on a specific item. If your bid exceeds the seller’s minimum reserve, the auctioneer will aim to secure the item for you at the lowest possible price.

Important: Absentee bids submitted in advance take precedence over identical bids placed in the room or over the phone.

Auction Total: Your bid + a 25% buyer’s premium + any applicable resale rights

Tip: to ensure you don’t miss out, we also recommend leaving an absentee bid as a backup.

4. Online live bidding

During our live auctions, we also provide the opportunity to bid online live. If you would like to bid online live, please register on one of the following platforms before the start of the sale. Registration on the Flanders Auctions website is not mandatory.

Frequently asked questions

You will receive your invoice within 24 hours after the last lot is sold. Please check your spam or inbox, and feel free to contact us by email if you have any questions.

You can place a bid on your favorite item by creating a Flanders Auctions account, reserving a telephone line, or bidding through one of our partner platforms (Drouot, Live Auctioneers, Invaluable, etc.).

At Flanders Auctions, the buyer’s premium is 25%. This premium is a charge based on the final hammer price that the buyer must pay. In addition to the buyer’s premium, the buyer is also responsible for all applicable taxes and shipping fees.

The resale right is an additional compensation fee granted to graphic and visual artists, including photographers, when their original artwork is resold by an art dealer or auction house. The resale right applies when the resale price of the work (excluding VAT) is €2,000 or more. The resale right is calculated as follows:

4% for the portion of the sale price up to €50,000
3% for the portion between €50,000.01 and €200,000
1% for the portion between €200,000.01 and €350,000
0.5% for the portion between €350,000.01 and €500,000
0.25% for the portion exceeding €500,000

However, the maximum resale right per artwork (per resale) is capped at €12,500.
